Six days, four venues, and one of them is showing the exact film we've got up for preorder on the store. From a Kurosawa and Oshii double at the Prince Charles Cinema to a 10th-anniversary Q&A screening at the Garden Cinema, here's everything worth catching on the big screen across the UK this week.
Wednesday 9 September
A Kurosawa and Oshii Double at the Prince Charles Cinema
Prince Charles Cinema, London - RASHOMON 12pm - ANGEL'S EGG (4K) 5:45pm
RASHOMON is the film that put Japanese cinema on the world map - four conflicting accounts of the same crime, still one of the most influential structures in film history. Later the same day, Mamoru Oshii's ANGEL'S EGG screens in a new 4K restoration, a strange and quietly beautiful collaboration with artist Yoshitaka Amano, in cinemas for the first time in decades.
Thursday 10 September
SURVIVE STYLE 5+ - World Premiere 4K Restoration
Prince Charles Cinema, London - 6pm
Tadanobu Asano (ICHI THE KILLER) and Vinnie Jones star in five completely unconnected, bizarre stories that spiral into one surreal, tangled whole - director Gen Sekiguchi's visually maximalist cult comedy, one of Japanese cinema's true one-of-a-kind experiences.
Why this one's different
This is the exact restoration we've got up for preorder on Blu-ray and UHD, out 19th October. Tonight's screening is your chance to see it on the big screen first, before the disc even ships - and the tour doesn't stop in London. It plays Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol on Friday, then Newcastle and Nottingham this weekend, with more UK dates through September.

Kiki's Delivery Service and Dear You
Prince Charles Cinema, London (8:35pm) - Garden Cinema, London (1:20pm)
Studio Ghibli's KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE is back at the Prince Charles Cinema in the evening, and the Garden Cinema has an afternoon showing of DEAR YOU, the Chinese box office phenomenon that's had a genuinely long UK theatrical run this year.
Saturday 12 September
The Busiest Day We Found This Week - Five Screenings, Four Venues
Garden Cinema - Prince Charles Cinema - Phoenix Cinema, East Finchley - Close-Up Film Centre
Start at the Garden Cinema, where SOUL MATE (Derek Tsang, Hong Kong/China) gets a Q&A screening at 12:30pm marking ten years since its original Hong Kong release, and DEAR YOU has another showing at 1:15pm. GODZILLA - the original 1954 film - is on at the Prince Charles Cinema at 6pm.
Out in East Finchley, Japanese Film Club is screening SHALL WE DANCE at the Phoenix Cinema at 5pm. And near Brick Lane, Close-Up Film Centre - a forty-seat repertory cinema behind a cafe, with a 26,000-title lending library attached - is showing Ryusuke Hamaguchi's DRIVE MY CAR at 7:30pm, part of an ongoing run there.
New venue this week
Close-Up Film Centre, 97 Sclater Street E1, is a genuine find for anyone who hasn't been - a small, dedicated repertory space specialising in retrospectives and the avant-garde, screening on 35mm, 16mm and digital.

Chungking Express and Perfect Days
Prince Charles Cinema, London - CHUNGKING EXPRESS (4K) 2:10pm - PERFECT DAYS 6pm
Wong Kar Wai's CHUNGKING EXPRESS gets a 4K screening in the afternoon, followed by Wim Wenders' PERFECT DAYS - Koji Yakusho's quietly extraordinary performance as a Tokyo toilet cleaner who finds beauty in routine - in the evening.

Ghost in the Shell Closes the Week

Mamoru Oshii's GHOST IN THE SHELL rounds things off in a new 4K presentation - a fitting bookend to a week that opened with his ANGEL'S EGG.
