New This Monday: 5 Blu-ray Releases Landing 14th September 2026

Five new Blu-rays land on Monday 14th September, from four different UK boutique labels covering four very different corners of Asian cinema - peak Jackie Chan, a Hong Kong Category III cult classic, a wildly different side of a martial arts icon, a rarely-seen Japanese gothic mystery and a two-disc J-horror special edition. Here's what's arriving and why each one is worth your shelf space.

The Armour of God Collection (Blu-ray)

The Armour of God Collection Blu-ray

88 Films | Directed by Jackie Chan | Starring Jackie Chan, Lola Forner, Alan Tam

Two ARMOUR OF GOD films for the price of one, both starring Jackie Chan as the "Asian Hawk," a two-fisted archaeologist chasing priceless relics across the globe. In ARMOUR OF GOD he's after religious artefacts while taking on a cult bent on global destruction; in OPERATION CONDOR he's in the Sahara racing to find Nazi gold before the bad guys do. Both films find Chan at the absolute peak of his stunt work.

Why watch it: this is Jackie Chan doing his own Indiana Jones, minus the safety net - the stunts here are real, dangerous and often the reason these films are still talked about decades later. A genuinely essential double bill for anyone building out a Jackie Chan collection.

Sex and the Emperor (Blu-ray)

Sex and the Emperor Blu-ray

88 Films | Directed by Sherman Wong | Starring Yvonne Yung Hung, Sung Boon Chun, Leung Si Ho

SEX AND THE EMPEROR (1994) is full-on palace intrigue, told through the eyes of Li, a servant who isn't quite the eunuch he's meant to be. He does the emperor's bidding whether that means helping him spy on women, rescuing his favourite concubine from a whorehouse, or dealing with his enemies.

Why watch it: this is Hong Kong Category III cinema at its most unrestrained - a full-blooded example of the genre for anyone building out that specific corner of HK film history, and a much harder title to find in good condition than the more famous Cat III titles.

Wicked Priest Collection (Blu-ray)

Wicked Priest Collection Blu-ray

Arrow Video | Starring Tomisaburo Wakayama, Tsu Ishiyama, Kenjiro Ishiyama

Tomisaburo Wakayama is best known as the stoic Ogami Itto from LONE WOLF AND CUB - here he plays Shinkai, a Buddhist monk with a serious weakness for drinking, gambling and women, who sets sinners straight with judo throws rather than sermons. Across all five films in the series he brawls his way through corrupt yakuza, rival mobsters and a recurring nemesis, the Zatoichi-inspired fighting monk Ryotatsu (Bunta Sugawara).

Why watch it: if your only reference point for Wakayama is the deadly serious Ogami Itto, this collection is a genuinely fun reversal - the same physical presence and fighting ability, aimed entirely at 60s action-comedy instead of stone-cold revenge. A five-film set is also simply a lot of Wakayama for one release.

The Inugami Family (Blu-ray)

The Inugami Family Blu-ray

Radiance Films | Directed by Kon Ichikawa | Starring Yoko Shimada, Koji Ishizaka, Mitsuko Kusabue | Limited Edition - 3,000 copies

When the wealthy patriarch of the Inugami dynasty dies, he leaves his fortune to Tamayo, a young woman from outside the family, on one condition: she must marry one of his grandsons. As the family gathers to discuss the situation, grisly murders begin, and Detective Kosuke Kindaichi arrives to uncover the family's buried history.

Why watch it: THE INUGAMI FAMILY was a massive hit in Japan that genuinely changed the industry, yet it's barely been seen outside the country - this is one of Japanese cinema's best-kept secrets finally getting a proper UK release, from the director of TEN WOMEN IN BLACK. A gothic murder mystery with real atmosphere, capped at 3,000 copies.

Crazy Lips / Gore from Outer Space (Blu-ray)

Crazy Lips / Gore from Outer Space Blu-ray

Third Window Films | Directed by Hirohisa Sasaki | Starring Miwa Hitomi, Hiroshi Abe, Ren Osugi | Limited Edition - 2,000 copies

Two unhinged J-horror films from Japan's Omega Pictures (AUDITION, LOVE EXPOSURE), produced by Takashige Ichise (JU-ON, DARK WATER) and written by Hiroshi Takahashi, the screenwriter behind THE RING. In CRAZY LIPS, a woman turns to a psychic to prove her brother's innocence in a killing spree, at a price far higher than she bargained for. In GORE FROM OUTER SPACE, a woman about to be executed for her daughter's murder tells a nun a story that spirals into psychics, dirty politicians and headless corpses.

Why watch it: this is a genuine pedigree pairing - the writer of THE RING and the producer of JU-ON, working together on two films that go somewhere far stranger than either of those. New director-approved restorations, capped at 2,000 units, for anyone who wants their J-horror a little more unhinged than usual.
