Anime All-Nighter at London Prince Charles Cinema

Saturday 27th May, The Prince Charles Cinema will be hosting The ANIME ALL NIGHTER. Starting from 11pm ending at roughly 08:45am.

The line up for this years AniMay (get it?) is a fantastic selection of cult classic anime manga films through the ages, starting off with Katsuhiro Otomo's explosive Akira and ending with dark and disturbing Paprika. 

It will be a long night, so you might need more than popcorn for this allnight film event.

AKIRA (1988) : In 1988 the Japanese government drops an atomic bomb on Tokyo after ESP experiments on children go awry. In 2019, 31 years after the nuking of the city, Kaneda, a bike gang leader, tries to save his friend Tetsuo from a secret government project. He battles anti-government activists, greedy politicians, irresponsible scientists and a powerful military leader until Tetsuo's supernatural powers suddenly manifest. A final battle is fought in Tokyo Olympiad exposing the experiment's secrets.

GHOST IN THE SHELL (1995) : Cyborg federal agent Maj. Motoko Kusanagi (Mimi Woods) trails "The Puppet Master" (Abe Lasser), who illegally hacks into the computerized minds of cyborg-human hybrids. Her pursuit of a man who can modify the identity of strangers leaves Motoko pondering her own makeup and what life might be like if she had more human traits. With her partner (Richard George), she corners the hacker, but her curiosity about her identity sends the case in an unforeseen direction.

PERFECT BLUE (1997) : A retired pop singer turned actress’ sense of reality is shaken when she is stalked by an obsessed fan and seemingly a ghost of her past.

COWBOY BEBOP : THE MOVIE (2001) : Cocky Spike Spiegel and the crew of his spaceship, Bebop, an intrepid band of bounty hunters, land on Mars in the year 2071 chasing an enormous cash reward. The four-person team, also including looming cyborg Jet Black, fearless Faye Valentine and tech expert Edward, are in search of ex-military officer Vincent. The former hero has become a biological terrorist with an arsenal of devastating nano-bots that he'll let loose on Alba City on the night before Halloween if his demands aren't met.

PAPRIKA (2006) : Dr. Atsuko Chiba works as a scientist by day and, under the code name "Paprika," is a dream detective at night. Atsuko and her colleagues are working on a device called the DC Mini, which is intended to help psychiatric patients, but in the wrong hands it could destroy people's minds. When a prototype is stolen, Atsuko/Paprika springs into action to recover it before damage is done.
