More Info
Miyabi, a divorced woman grappling with the death of her young daughter, begins working as a call girl in an effort to survive. Her mundane routine takes a disturbing turn when she meets a strange client with a singular obsession—photographing different parts of her body. First, he asks to capture an image of her spine. Then, her feet. With each click of the shutter, Miyabi begins to experience something extraordinary and horrifying: the sensation of her daughter's spirit creeping closer.
Haunted by these encounters, Miyabi is drawn into a surreal journey where memory, grief and the supernatural intertwine. The camera lens becomes a gateway between worlds, inching her closer to a complete spiritual reunion—and possibly the collapse of her reality.
Neu Mirrors, the accompanying short film, serves as a mind-bending continuation of New Religion. Set immediately after a key moment in the main film, it follows a man named Aizawa who awakens in an unfamiliar hotel room. A voice calls to him from an earpiece. A photo book lies at his feet, showing unfamiliar faces... and his own. From there, Aizawa’s reality spirals into a nightmarish unreality where nothing is as it seems.
This limited edition release from Third Window Films showcases one of the most daring new voices in Japanese horror and offers fans a deeply atmospheric, experimental experience that lingers long after viewing.
