Wong Kar Wai Films on Blu-ray and 4K

Wong Kar Wai Blu-ray and 4K UHD editions

Wong Kar Wai is the Hong Kong director behind some of the most celebrated romantic films of recent decades, from the restless energy of CHUNGKING EXPRESS and FALLEN ANGELS to the hushed longing of IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE. His films are known for saturated colour, fractured storytelling and the cinematography of Christopher Doyle, and they have won major prizes at Cannes, including Best Director for HAPPY TOGETHER (1997) and Best Actor for Tony Leung Chiu Wai in IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (2000).

This page collects the Wong Kar Wai Blu-ray and 4K UHD editions we stock. They include Criterion Collection releases of CHUNGKING EXPRESS (also as a 4K UHD and Blu-ray dual format) and IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE, and Nova Media slipcase Blu-rays of AS TEARS GO BY, DAYS OF BEING WILD, ASHES OF TIME REDUX, FALLEN ANGELS, HAPPY TOGETHER and 2046, several of them limited editions. THE GRANDMASTER is here too, along with FINAL VICTORY, the 1987 Hong Kong film written by Wong Kar Wai.

Which edition should you choose? The Criterion discs are Region B, so they play on UK and European Blu-ray players. The Nova Media editions are region free, so they play on a player from any region, and they come in slipcase packaging.

Looking for the World of Wong Kar Wai box set? Criterion’s UK edition, released in 2021, collects seven films on Blu-ray: AS TEARS GO BY, DAYS OF BEING WILD, CHUNGKING EXPRESS, FALLEN ANGELS, HAPPY TOGETHER, IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE and 2046. It is a separate release from the single discs on this page, which let you build a collection film by film. Most older UK DVD sets are now out of print, so the editions here are on Blu-ray and 4K UHD.
